Step by Step ADSL for XP
Step by Step for Windows XP Step 1 Your Physical Connection Make sure all your phones have a filter installed (this means every phone connected to your ADSL number in your premises). Notice the filters can be plugged in back to front so make sure they are on the right way around. Ensure your ADSL Link Light is on SOLID (please see your modem guide). If your link light is not solid on you may not have ADSL CODES installed yet on your phone line. Please check the Application Status Page and ensure your connection is COMPLETE. Step 2: Plug in your Modem. Diagram here Plug your modem into the phone line without a filter. For those that have a security system please go here before proceeding. Step 3: Connecting your modem to your PC If you have problems or do not have a Billion modem please proceed as follows. Turn on your PC if it is not already started. Click the start button in the bottom left corner. 
Go to Control Panel.
Click on Network and Internet Connections.
Double Click Network Connections
Double Click Local Area Connection (the two computers) and the local area Connection screen appears as shown below.

Highlight the Internet Protocol and click the Properties Button.

Fill in the boxes with the settings above. Note: These are the settings for the Billion modem; if your modem is another brand then these settings may alter slightly. The .Netcall helpdesk does not know all modem settings so please consult your modem documentation for these.
When you have filled in the boxes as above please click OK button.
This takes you back to the previous screen.
Please ensure you have the following ticked: Show icon in notification area when connected Click OK Button Close all Screens. Step 4: Configuring your modem Open your browser window by left clicking on the MS Internet Explorer Icon.

This is the one pictured with the blue “e” and you will find it in the Top left hand corner of your XP menu. Your browser should pop up something like the one below. 
Enter the numbers in the address bar as pictured above and press enter. This should bring up a dialogue box for you to enter your Modem username and password. You will need to consult your modem manual to know what this is. Enter your username and password as stated in the manual that came with your modem and press enter.
You have now logged onto your modem and need to enter the username and password into the modem so the modem can log on to the .Netcall network. From here you need to read the welcome pack for details on how to do this. Not long now and you should be surfing |
